A day filled with visitors

The boys and I did not even leave the house today, but we had lots of fun visitors come to us! I am so glad that Denae happened to be heading our direction today when I chatted with her on FB this morning. After my last paint choice resulted in a pepto pink nursery, I lost my already shaky at best confidence in my ability to choose paint colors. Lucky for me, Denae has a talent for these things and she choose my chairs rail color for me in 10 minutes after I had stared at everything for 30 minutes, and had done nothing but become more unsure about it. I feel sure her color choice will help tone down the super bright pink. Thank goodness it is only on half of the wall!

Cindy was our next visitor. She dropped off Michael and Kate so she could go assist her parents with their new home purchase. Teri and her boys arrived for a visit shortly thereafter. I love hangin' with Teri because we think a lot alike in a lot or ways, and our boys play great together. I was her student teacher, and I feel very fortunate that I had such an awesome cooperating teacher that I developed a long lasting friendship with. I still learn "music teacher things" from her to this day!

Since it was such a hot day we threw all the kids in the pool. I think everyone had a great time. I am truly blessed to have such wonderful friends!!!

Laundry day

Today was not a real exciting day. I pretty much did laundry all day, and still did not finish. Ethan was excited about going to the FC Dallas game with his Grandpa tonight. He even asked to have his hair in a mohawk like one of his favorite players he calls "blond headed guy."

Of course, Davin had a come apart that Ethan was leaving with Grandpa and he could'nt go. I calmed him down with the good old diversion tactic and told him that I would take him out for ice cream.

He enjoyed jumping around the fountain in front of Beth Marie's after he finished his ice cream. He also had a great time visiting with Mr. Greg on the way home.

Play dates, coming clean, and a birthday party

The final GRE playgroup of the summer was at our house today. It is hard to believe that the end of summer is practically here. It seems like just yesterday we were picking out host dates. Of course being the chef I am not, I was lazy and just made hot dogs and chips. I also bought a fruit tray and put out store bought cookies. The other moms in playgroup all made nice sandwhichs, salads, homemade desserts, etc. I am the underachiever once again, but I think that the babies all had fun, and it was nice to be able to keep in touch over the summer.

Ethan was very excited that he got to invite his own GRE friend, Rachel, to playgroup today for a play "date" ;)I promised him he and Rachel could do "big kid" stuff after the little guys all had to leave for their naps. Ethan and Rachel spent all afternoon in the pool. When they came inside they decided to play "Mommy and Daddy". It was good for Ethan to get to do something special, and I enjoyed having adult conversation with Sarah while Davin napped.

Alright, so I finally "came clean" today with my friends from school about the fact that Doug and I didn't officially get married until after Ethan was born. I never lied about it so to speak. I just never explained events in the order they actually occurred because I was embarrassed or thought people would think badly of me or something, but as of today I decided that this was my life the way it happened, and there was no sense in being ashamed or hiding it.

We were already living together and engaged before I got pregnant. Doug and I didn't get married until after Ethan was born because I was very sick the first 18 weeks or so, and when I wasn't sick anymore I was showing and didn't want to be the "pregnant bride." We got married at the JP on October 12th of 2002 when Ethan was 12 days old. We did this primarily so Doug could get me on his health insurance. The above is a picture of us at my mom's house afterward cutting our "wedding cake."
We had the wedding we were supposed to have the day before our first anniversary, October 11, 2003, when we renewed our vows in the presence of all of our family and friends, and I finally got to wear my wedding dress! It was a beautiful day, and Doug looked very handsome in his tux if I do say so myself. Now you all know and that is that!

On a much lighter note, we ended our day today at my Granny's 72nd b-day party. She was her usual pain in the butt self, and managed to piss off her entire family per usual with her negative attitude and hateful comments. At least she let Ethan and Davin blow out the candles.

The Good, bad, and ugly

The good news today is at 37 weeks my blood pressure is still right where it should be. The bad news is I won't get my vehicle back until the end of next week, and my rental car isn't the best car on earth. I guess I should just be thankful I have anything to drive at all at this point.

The ugly is the view from my front dining room window.......
No your eyes are not playing tricks on you. That is a dumpster and a port-a-potty. It is certainly not a scenic view, although the port-a-potty may come in handy when the redneck crew comes to hang. They can use it instead of the side of my house ;). I guess that's a part of living in a neighborhood that is new and still under construction that I am going to have to get used to. I am also having to get used to all the trees and shrubs being so small and brand new. I realize that these things are just going to take time, and have to remember that it won't be this way forever! One good thing I can say about the construction across the street is Davin will stand in that window and watch the tractors and workers as long as they are there. The bad part is he cries when they leave. He is in the picture above because that is where he had been standing for about 35 minutes straight before I decided to take the picture, not because he was posing for Mommy!

Also on the ugly list is my tummy! I didn't realize how huge that thing is until Doug took a picture of it which I am going to kindly spare you all from seeing and not post. I am very jealous of all my girlfriends who had perfect stretch mark free bellies. The only good thing is this time mine are white and not plum purple like they were with the boys!

The boys are happy that they are finally making some friends to play with in the new neighborhood. They are decorating the driveway with sidewalk chalk after a busy evening "working" in the empty lot next door to us. I am glad that they are realizing they can be friends with the kids here and with the kids from Redwood. Ethan is also beginning to understand that his new friends are additions and not replacements, and he will always be friends with Michael, Jake, etc. no matter where he lives!

A few pics from last week.......

Ethan informed me this morning that I am supposed to have his pictures on the blog. Both my boys ask to see Michelle's blog because they love to see the pics of Brody and baby Kate, especially Davin. Here are a few pics of last week to make the boys happy. Here are the boys with all the fellow "babies" at play group last Wed. I have really enjoyed play group this summer even though Davin is always the only brat there. He seems to think everything is his and is the only child who tries to take stuff away from the other children. How embarrassing for me! Of course he gets in trouble and cries so everyone else has to listen to it. He really is a loving, sweet boy. He is just having to learn appropriate behaviors in group settings.

Everyone at playgroup always gets a really cute family pic. This pic is not really cute, but it is the only one I got. Funny how you don't realize how unpleasantly plump you have become during pregnancy until you see yourself in a photo. Yuck!

On Friday, the boys went swimming in the backyard with Michael and Keaton. We just have an above ground pool, but they have a really good time in it.

Friday evening, Davin experienced his first major ride on vehicle accident when we were playing outside and road rashed his poor little face. It was scary, but he has recovered relatively quickly. It actually looked worse the next day :(

TAKE 2

Every day is a new day, and I tried not to let my idiotic accident yesterday keep my spirits down today. I called and filed the claim first thing this morning, and boy did I feel dumb when I had to explain my accident to the insurance company. Luckily, he actually made me feel better by giving me a different perspective. I realized that I am not the first person who has had the exact same momentary brain fart accident, and mine didn't end all the badly after all. He informed me that often when doors get bent like mine did that the glass in the window often shatters and causes serious injury, which thank God did not happen. He has also encountered similar accidents where the person has fallen down trying to stop the vehicle and the vehicle has rolled over them, which also didn't happen to me. Yes, it stinks that I am out $500 bucks, I certainly could come up with better things to do with that money, and I have to drive a rental for a few days, but I am very lucky that I wasn't hurt, that the baby wasn't hurt, and my boys weren't hurt. These things are far more important, and I am thankful that God kept us all safe. I also learned that when I get stressed and flustered that I need to step back and breathe for a moment.

My mom took us over to Ginnie's today, and this time we were successful at making the trip. Ginnie has a swing, a bouncy seat, and an exersaucer she is so generously letting us borrow! We had fun visiting with them even though Davin and Cameron slept the whole time!

My dad came over this afternoon to swim with the boys for a while, then we grilled burgers for dinner when Grandma and Uncle James joined us. The boys went down with no fight at all tonight since they didn't go to sleep until 1:30 last night for my parents (sorry Mom and Dad). Overall, not a bad day!

How in the world did I do that?

I have to be completely honest with myself. Sometimes my boys drive me out of my tree. Ethan is always bored, especially since we have moved to the new house, and Davin is so clingy right now that he insist on being attached to my side almost constantly. He even insist on sitting on my lap when I am on the toilet, no matter what I am doing. Of course I must take ownership for some of these issues, but that will be another story for another day....

So you may be wondering what any of this has to do with today's title. I believe that my completely avoidable and stupid accident may be due to the fact that I was so flustered that I completely lost my train of rational thought. My workout was not enjoyable b/c I had to "correct" the boys every few seconds the whole way through it, and when Davin finally did leave me alone, he decided to go help his Daddy "paint" his little sister's room ;) which resulted in Davin needing a bath. I was also kind of disappointed that the room ended up being a much brighter pink than I originally envisioned, but I will live with it. So after finally managing to get the boys and myself out the door and in the car they started the "we're thirsty" complaint per usual. I guess I was already backing out. I know I was not happy about having to get out and get juice bags, but I can't believe I actually left the car in reverse. The drivers door got caught on the wall and the car kept on rollin'. I managed to get my hand on the brake to stop the car for getting all the way out of the garage with my boys strapped in it! By the time I stopped it the door was bent so badly that I couldn't even close it and the sheet rock was torn out half way down the wall. I just stood there in shock and cried.

I am supposed to be at aGinnie's house enjoying steak and going through baby things that she is so kindly going to let me borrow, but as fate or stupidity would have it here I sit typing this unforseeable entry instead.

P.S. Davin has been clinging to my arm the entire time I have been typing this........
